Gregg A. Jarrell, chief economist of the Securities and Exchange Commission, said he has resigned, effective Jan. 2, probably to return to teaching.
Jarrell, who had held the post for 2 1/2 years, said he submitted his resignation last week to SEC Chairman John S. R. Shad.
