Fireworks Smugglers Die in Uruguay Blast

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay —
A man and a woman trying to smuggle Brazilian firecrackers into Uruguay were killed Monday night when police shot at their truck, touching off a massive explosion that damaged several buildings nearby, authorities said Tuesday.
The truck was carrying 1,100 pounds of firecrackers when police, who have been cracking down on smuggling from Brazil, gave chase near San Gabriel, 60 miles north of Montevideo.
