3 LaRouche Aides Are Charged With Obstructing Probe
An aide to political extremist Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. and two associates were indicted Tuesday on federal charges of trying to obstruct an investigation of an alleged credit card fraud scheme designed to finance LaRouche’s presidential campaigns.
Edward Spannaus, 43, of Leesburg, Va., treasurer of the LaRouche campaign, allegedly discussed how to impede the grand jury investigation and wrote in a record book: “(The) Boston situation is serious, we should move to deny them access to documents and people.”
Also indicted on conspiracy to obstruct justice charges were John Scialdone, 33, of Boston, who allegedly burned and shredded financial documents subpoenaed by the grand jury, and Robert Greenberg, 34, of Leesburg.
The men, who face prison terms of up to five years, turned themselves in to the FBI in Boston. U.S. Magistrate Robert Collings ordered them held without bail until a hearing Thursday.
