More U.S. firms are seen leaving South Africa.
Frank Lubke, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Johannesburg, said he knows of 26 more American companies that plan to pull out within the next six months. He said the companies, which he refused to identify, plan to sell or simply shut down their South African subsidiaries within the next six months, and he acknowledged that the total could be much higher. Pressure on the 260 American companies still operating in South Africa is mounting daily, Lubke said.
