Ticktockers Put on the Holiday Glitz
The question of what to wear this Christmas season was answered with aplomb by the Ticktockers of Saddleback Valley National Charity League at their annual mother-daughter “Puttin’ on the Glitz” brunch Saturday.
In a turnout that doubled last year’s attendance, nearly 400 women gathered at the Airporter Inn to lunch and enjoy a long look at the season’s fashions--from sweats for the slopes to strapless lame for more formal affairs.
Just after the ladies were seated at their tables--decorated with poinsettias potted in tinsel-wrapped top-hats--chapter president Marylou Hill greeted the members.
“It is a delight to see so many of you here, strengthening the mother-daughter relationship and helping to instill a sense of responsibility in these young ladies,” she said.
The group has collectively donated 4,000 hours in community service to such organizations as the Orange County Riding Center for the handicapped, Meals on Wheels and the Saddleback Senior Center in the past year.
Annie-Laurie Salerno and her mother Charlotte Franks were perhaps the most dynamic duo on hand. Annie-Laurie received this year’s Merci award for her outstanding participation, while her mother is philanthropies chairwoman.
“These girls are very special to us,” Ticktocker coordinator Patricia Kegan said of the 11th- and 12th-grade girls who served as models. Patricia’s daughter Jennifer was among the group--the first class to complete the chapter’s junior and senior high program.
Other mother and daughter teams included: Joyce and Catlin Hanna, Marylou and Mindy Hill, event chairwoman Kathy Bonner and her daughter Kerry and Marybeth and Kelley Poleynard.
For the final sweep down the runway, each girl was allowed to choose a gown from the selection provided by Happiness Is a New Rag boutique in Corona del Mar. But most of the moms, despite the constant flash of camera bulbs, said it wasn’t likely that their daughters would find such slinky stuff under the tree.
