Some Workers Over 55 to Receive History of Social Security Earnings

WASHINGTON — Many workers over age 55 will get a report of their earnings history in 1987 to help them calculate their Social Security benefits when they retire, the Social Security commissioner said Friday.
The Social Security Administration plans to begin sending the reports “to a good sample of (people) over 55 in 1987,” Social Security Commissioner Dorcas R. Hardy said.
The agency plans to expand the reports to include workers over age 45, she said, and eventually every member of the work force paying into Social Security would get a periodic report of his or her earnings.
Reports of earning history now are given only to newly retired beneficiaries.
