Mark Shulman, who since October, 1985, has been president of Allied Stores’ Ann Taylor division, has been appointed president and chief executive of Henri Bendel, a high-fashion New York specialty store owned by the Limited.

The Limited recently announced that Bendel’s, which the company bought the same month that Shulman joined Ann Taylor, will in 1988 leave its longtime 57th Street location for a much larger spot on Fifth Avenue between 55th and 56th streets. The Columbus, Ohio, company plans to open a series of Bendel’s throughout the country, with four sites now under consideration.

Before joining Ann Taylor, Shulman was a senior vice president of I. Magnin and held many positions at Bloomingdale’s.

His move from Allied Stores, which recently agreed to a buyout by Campeau Corp., a Canadian developer, is one of a number of management changes occurring in retailing companies that have been takeover targets this year.

An Allied spokesman said Charles B. James, vice president of Allied and executive group manager of Ann Taylor, will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Ann Taylor unit on an interim basis.

Geraldine Stutz, who resigned as president of Bendel’s July 31, recently took a post as a publisher at Random House in New York, heading up a new division called Panache Press.
