Toyota expects its production to slip 1% in 1987.

Japan’s largest auto maker predicted that its total production in 1987 will dip to 3.63 million vehicles from this year’s projected output of 3.66 million. Like many major Japanese companies, Toyota has suffered during the past year from the sharp rise in the Japanese yen’s value against other currencies, which makes Japanese goods more expensive overseas. In announcing its production and marketing plan for 1987, Toyota said its exports were projected to drop 3% to 1.82 million units.
