PacTel agreed to buy five cellular phone systems.

PacTel Personal Communications, through its affiliate, PacTel Cellular Inc. of Michigan, will pay $316 million for the cellular telephone companies in Detroit/Ann Arbor, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing, Mich., and in Toledo, Ohio. The sellers are subsidiaries of Graphic Scanning Corp., Washington Post Co., Rapid-American Corp., RAM Broadcasting Corp., Western Union Telegraph Co., Associated Communications Corp., Cellular Communications Inc. and other investors. The five systems will be called Cellular One.
