250 Escape Blaze on Air India Jet, 39 Hurt
More than 250 people made an emergency evacuation from an Air India Airbus when flames were spotted above its right wheel as it landed at the southern city of Trivandrum on Sunday, the Press Trust of India said.
It said 24 passengers among the 237 passengers and 15 crew members on the flight from Abu Dhabi and Dubai were slightly injured as the plane applied emergency brakes and passengers hurriedly slid down escape chutes.
The agency gave no further details of the fire but quoted passengers as saying the plane’s departure from Dubai had been held up for about 24 hours by a fault in the hydraulic system.
