A drug store manager was seriously injured when a bomb exploded underneath his car as he tried to start it, blowing him out of the vehicle, Chino police said. James Moffott, 23, was taken to the Loma Linda University Medical Center burn unit with serious burns on his upper legs and face, police said. The hospital declined to release any information. But Detective Jim Neuman said Moffott was in critical condition, but his injuries did not appear to be fatal. Moffott left the Osco Drug store he manages in Chino with several employees and walked to his car in the parking lot of the shopping center complex, police said. As he sat down in the driver’s seat there was “a thunderous explosion” that blew Moffott out of his car and knocked down several of his companions, police said. The vehicle burst into flames and was destroyed. Detectives planned to interview Moffott to learn who might have tried to kill him, Neuman said.
