Former Assemblyman Bruce E. Young of Norwalk was charged with 28 counts of mail fraud stemming from his dealings with W. Patrick Moriarty, the fireworks dealer convicted of political corruption.

Valerie Terrigno, who became the nation’s first avowed lesbian mayor when West Hollywood was granted cityhood, was found guilty on 12 counts of embezzling $9,000 in federal funds while heading a counseling center.

Councilman Richard Alatorre agreed to pay $141,966 to settle a lawsuit filed against him by the city attorney for violating campaign laws. He was allowed to pay all but $5,000 out of campaign contributions.

The campaign manager of Mike Curb, the Republican lieutenant governor candidate, disguised his voice and a gave a fake name when he phoned into the Michael Jackson radio show on KABC to harass Curb rival Leo McCarthy. Reporters present exposed the caller.
