Botha to Call White Election

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa —
President Pieter W. Botha said today he will call a general election for white voters in 1987, two years ahead of schedule. In a New Year’s Eve message broadcast nationwide on radio and television, Botha said: “I think the time to consult the white electorate on a number of fundamental issues is fast approaching.” He said he will announce the date of the election for the House of Assembly when Parliament opens Jan. 30.
