COLLEGE FOOTBALL : THE BOWLS: 1986 : Appeal Is Denied; Nunn Misses Game
Clarence Nunn, a starting cornerback for San Diego State, had to miss Tuesday’s Holiday Bowl game against Iowa because traces of medicines used in nasal inhalers were found in his system during drug testing Dec. 9. Results of the test cited the presence of methamphetamines, which are banned by the NCAA.
San Diego State officials, informed of the results Dec. 24, conducted an internal investigation that determined the cause of the positive finding was a nasal inhaler Nunn was using to relieve cold symptoms. According to the school’s official statement, the finding was validated in conversation with two drug-testing laboratories.
Fred Miller, San Diego State athletic director, appealed the NCAA’s banning of Nunn, but the appeal was rejected.
