Maywood : City Hall Renovation

Share

The second floor of the aging City Hall is about to get a $248,000 face lift.

Renovation of the council chambers to make them accessible to handicapped people began this week and is expected to last two months.

Pasadena-based Milestone Construction Co. will remodel the upstairs restroom to meet handicapped requirements, extend the council podium, seal windows, install wood paneling, build an elevator on the north side of the building, and install a new sound system, ceiling and lighting.

Although the city first set out to meet handicapped requirements, “we decided to make a few more changes,” City Clerk Leonard Locher said. The City Hall was built in 1938.

Due to construction, council and Planning Commission meetings will be at the Maywood Community Building during January. The council meetings will be Jan. 13 and Jan. 27; the Planning Commission will meet Jan. 20. The community building is at 4747 56th St.

Lion’s Club meetings--usually held at the city hall--will be at the Moose Lodge, 4655 Slauson Ave., during January and February.
