The Night Stalker case has cost Los Angeles County more than $760,000 as of October, while the McMartin Pre-School molestation case has racked up a bill so far of more than $4.7 million. Between August, 1985, and October, 1986, the case involving accused Night Stalker Richard Ramirez cost a total of $760,443, a memo by Auditor-Controller Mark Bloodgood said. Most of that money, $433,193, was for the Sheriff’s Department. Other costs have included $183,322 for the district attorney’s office and $97,679 for the Marshal’s Department. The McMartin case cost $4,753,829 between July, 1983, and October, 1986, Bloodgood said. Costs included $1,882,233 for the district attorney’s office and $1,621,739 for the Sheriff’s Department.
