UCSD Tournament : Triton Men and Women Win, Both Face Clark in Finals

LA JOLLA — The UC San Diego men’s and women’s basketball teams advanced to the finals of the UCSD Tournament Friday night.
The UCSD men defeated Carnegie-Mellon (Pa.), 75-70, behind John Saintignon’s 23 points. The Tritons meet Clark (Mass.) College in the final at 8. Clark (8-0) beat Rochester (N.Y.) College Friday, 72-67. Kermit Sharp scored 35 points to lead Clark.
UCSD, which also got 18 points from Greg Kamansky, is 8-5. The UCSD women beat Carnegie-Mellon, 75-68. Chris McCallum had 24 points and Shelli Velie added 13 to lead the Tritons (6-4). UCSD’s women play Clark in the final tonight at 6.
The Clark women’s team defeated Rochester, 68-55, behind 30 points and 13 rebounds by Marina Giolas.
The women’s consolation game is today at 1, followed by the men’s consolation game at 3:30.
