Sheraton Will Open in Redondo Beach

Share

It is being called “Redondo Beach’s first meeting and convention hotel”--the $50-million, 334-room Sheraton, which will open Friday.

The five-story hotel is situated on a 5.5-acre triangular parcel in the city’s King Harbor redevelopment area. Designed by Killings-worth, Stricker, Lindgren, Wilson & Associates, the building is U-shaped so that most of the guest rooms have balconies and ocean views.

Haas & Haynie Inc. is managing partner of Redondo Beach Hotel Associates, which developed the hotel after a dozen separate land parcels were acquired. The owners are South Bay businessmen who spent years putting together the project. A 38,000-square-foot office and retail complex is being built adjacent to the hotel as part of the development. Sizes of the retail spaces are still open for negotiations.

The hotel has meeting space, a tennis court, swimming pool and spa, as well as its seaside location, across the street from the Redondo Beach Pier.

With the Redondo Beach project and a Long Beach hotel that is due to open in August, Sheraton will operate seven corporate hotels in the Los Angeles area. Others are in Santa Monica, downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport, Hollywood Hills and Universal City.
