AirCal, the Newport Beach regional airline that is being purchased by American Airlines, said it boarded its 5 millionth passenger for 1986. That was more passengers than the airline had previously carried during any one calendar year since it began service in January, 1967. By comparison, it boarded 4,451,013 passengers in 1985.
