A 25-year-old woman was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of setting fire to her father’s house while her three children were present, authorities said.

Sonya Jones, 25, was being held at the County Women’s Jail in connection with the fire Tuesday that caused $150,000 in damage to the home on Eider Court, said Capt. Ron Blaul of the county Fire Department.

No one was injured, Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said, and firefighters extinguished the blaze in about five minutes.

Blaul said Jones and her three children were upstairs when the smoke detector went off. They fled down an exterior stairway, he said.

Fires were set with flammable liquid inside a car in the garage and either in the family room or the kitchen, Blaul said.

“The fire was started purposely,” he said.

A motive has not been established. Neighbors said they believe that Jones was visiting her father, Robert Sangster, who was not home at the time of the fire.
