Florida Ex-Sen. Hawkins Has Spinal Disc Surgery

DURHAM, N.C. —
Former U.S. Sen. Paula Hawkins of Florida was recovering Wednesday from an operation on her lower spine in which doctors removed fragments of a disc that were causing her pain, her husband said. “She’s doing pretty well,” Gene Hawkins said after his wife underwent surgery Tuesday at Duke University Medical Center.
