Brea : Fence That Divided Neighbors to Be Razed

Share

A fence that has divided two tracts of homes, resulting in bad feelings between neighbors for 10 years, is slated to come down next week.

In a 4-1 vote, the City Council acted Tuesday night to remove the fence along Driftwood Avenue between the Heritage and Shadow Mountain Estate neighborhoods.

The fence was put up 10 years ago to protect Heritage residents while the adjacent development was under construction. It was meant to stay up for only a year. But the project took a decade to complete because it went through the hands of several development firms.

Residents in the newer homes claimed that the fence was an impediment to emergency vehicles. But residents in the older tract cited safety concerns and said that opening the streets would increase traffic, create hazards and ruin their quiet, cul-de-sac atmosphere.

About 100 people from both sides attended the council meeting Tuesday.
