4 Satellite Launches Reserved, China Says
China has signed four agreements to reserve satellite launches for U.S. and Swedish companies, the official New China News Agency said Thursday.
It quoted Wu Keli, a senior official of the Astronautics Ministry, as saying the satellites will be sent into orbit over the next two years.
Wu said about 30 companies from 20 countries, including the United States, Britain, France and West Germany, had sought help from China to launch or recover satellites. China began offering cut-price launches in October, 1985, but it has not yet signed a final contract or placed a foreign satellite into orbit.
Letters of intent have also been signed with Iran and other countries, he said.
