A man was convicted of murder without the evidence of a reporter who refused to testify about his interview with the defendant, but prosecutors said they still may press a contempt complaint against the newsman. A Superior Court jury in Rockland, Me., convicted former mental patient Richard Steeves, 44, of murder in the slaying of a gift shop owner. Reporter Robert Hohler of the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire, who refused last week to testify at Steeves’ trial, may be charged with criminal contempt as soon as Monday, Deputy Atty. Gen. Fernand LaRochelle said.
