Indiana Swimmers Win at UC San Diego

Powered by the strong swimming of Kate McDonald, who won the 100-meter freestyle Sunday after winning three events Saturday, Indiana University won the university division of the San Diego Senior Invitational at UC San Diego.

Bill Kazmierowicz was the leading swimmer for runner-up UCSD, winning four events.

Indiana compiled 1,837 points over the two days of competition, to UCSD’s 1,658. Cal State Bakersfield was third with 771 points. Swim San Diego easily won the club division with a total score of 1,053. The Rancho Bernardo Swim Club was second with 464 and the Chula Vista Swim Club third with 208.

Men’s Events 100 freestyle: Bill Kazmierowicz, UCSD, 46.23; 200 breaststroke: Jeff Oristaglio, Indiana, 2:09.82; 200 butterfly: Kyle Hoskins, Indiana, 1:55.89; 200 backstroke: Bill Kazmierowicz, UCSD, 1:55.82.

Women’s Events 100 freestyle: Kate McDonald, Indiana, 51.90; 200 breaststroke: Kelly Artz, Indiana, 2:29.29; 200 butterfly: Laura Smith, Escondido, 2:10.88; 200 backstroke: Cheri Geil, Indiana, 2:07.46.
