“Highs of the Sixties.” Various artists. Warner Special Products (AAD). There’s something a little unnerving about using the pristine CD technology for such ‘60s trash classics as the Electric Prunes’ “I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night,” Count Five’s “Psychotic Reaction” and that granddaddy of acid rock, Iron Butterfly’s “In-a-Gadda-da-Vida” (the short version). Fortunately, no amount of digitizing can erase the party raunch of Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs’ “Wooly Bully” and the Kingsmen’s immortal “Louie Louie.” No great art here, just 20 fun singles that would provide a perfect sound track for a Trivial Pursuit Baby Boomers session. Sound quality: average.
