Diodes Down to 1 Cent a Share in 2nd Quarter

Diodes said its net income fell to $29,947, or 1 cent a share, from $46,622, or 2 cents a share, in the second quarter ended Oct. 31. However, sales rose to $3.1 million from $2.8 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

The Chatsworth-based company, which makes power-supply regulators known as rectifiers that are used by the semiconductor industry, said earnings fell because of increased costs for computers and engineering work. Earnings were also hurt by costs associated with a new purchasing office in Taiwan, the company said.

In the first six months of its fiscal year, Diodes reported a $105,528 loss, 5 cents a share, on sales of $5.9 million. In the same period a year ago, Diodes earned $94,375, or 5 cents, on sales of $5.5 million.
