Seasoned With Mustard-Flavored Sauce : Toasty Ham Bake an Easy Meal in a Dish

Share

One of the best things about baking a ham is that it can be enjoyed not only for an initial dinner, but also for days afterward. Sandwiches, salads, soups and sauces are among the many ways ham can come to the table the second time around.

For a hearty one-dish meal, combine strips of leftover ham, toast cubes and shredded zucchini in a mustard-flavored white sauce. Bake and serve with a fruit salad.

TOASTY HAM BAKE

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/4 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups milk

4 eggs

1 teaspoon mustard

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

8 slices bread

3/4 pound sliced cooked ham

1 medium zucchini

Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in flour and salt. Gradually add milk and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Cover and cool.

Beat together eggs, mustard and pepper. Stir into sauce. Toast bread and cut into 3/4- to 1-inch cubes.

Cut ham into julienne strips. Shred zucchini. Combine ham, toast cubes and zucchini with sauce, stirring to coat all pieces. Pour into greased 8-inch square baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees 45 to 50 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Makes 6 servings.
