The World : Philippine Rebels Attack

Philippine Muslim rebels, angered by a government peace agreement with a rival group, attacked buildings and bridges in the southern Philippines, killing one person and injuring 13. Responsibility for the attacks was claimed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. This group has broken away from the larger Moro National Liberation Front, which has reached an accord with the government and has begun negotiations on autonomy. Meanwhile, President Corazon Aquino said that local elections will be held Aug. 24 for 73 provincial governors and about 1,500 mayors.
