A Paris court today ordered film director Roger Vadim to pay $10,000 each to actresses Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve for revealing intimate details of their private lives in a kiss-and-tell book.

Vadim’s book, “From One Star to Another,” depicts his three ex-lovers--Bardot, Deneuve and American actress Jane Fonda--as weak, unsure and troubled until he propelled them to stardom. Fonda did not join the other actresses in suing.

Judge Jean-Michel Guth ruled Vadim’s book need not be withdrawn from French bookshelves “due to the relatively innocent nature of the critical revelations.”

The court pointed out that for several years Bardot “has expressed her desire to escape the curiosity of the public.” As for Deneuve, the court said she has “also opposed any revelation concerning her private life” and has won several similar cases against publications.

Vadim contended he had the right to reveal his remembrances and that the court could not limit his right of expression.

Vadim was married to Bardot and Fonda and fathered a child by Deneuve, though they never married.
