Mergers in the software industry set a record.

The 305 mergers and acquisitions of companies involved in computer software and services fields in 1986 represented a 50% increase over 1985 and the total value of the deals exceeded $3.8 billion, according to the annual survey by Broadview for ADAPSO, a computer software and services industry trade group. One-third of the deals were begun as divestitures.
