Belgians Ria Van Landeghem and Vicent Rousseau won the women’s and men’s divisions of the 11th International Amendoeiras Cross running races.

Van Landeghem won the women’s title with a spurt past Portuguese favorite Rosa Mota in the final 500 meters of the 6,000-meter event. She was timed in 20 minutes, while Mota was clocked in 20:03.

In the men’s 10,000-meter run, Rousseau fought off a last-minute challenge by England’s Roger Hackney to win in 29:23. Hackney crossed the tape five seconds later, while Portugal’s Jose Regalo came in third in 29:32.
