Shelter to Open: A 48-bed shelter for homeless families will open in Orange within 30 days, the director of Christian Temporary Housing Facilities Inc. announced Tuesday. Several people had protested the proposed shelter during a city Planning Commission meeting Jan. 5, but no one filed an appeal of the commission’s unanimous action in approving the shelter by Tuesday’s deadline, city planning administrator Stan Soohoo said. Michael Elias said the shelter in the 300 block of Tustin Avenue will be able to house up to eight homeless families for up to 60 days.
