RALEIGH, N.C. — A Superior Court judge today refused to order a recount in the 6th Congressional District race, upholding the State Board of Elections’ decision to declare Republican Rep. Howard Coble the winner by 79 votes.
Former Rep. Robin Britt, a Democrat who lost to Coble, had filed a lawsuit asking that all 144,579 ballots cast in the Nov. 4 election be recounted or that a new election be held. Britt charged there were massive irregularities in the vote tabulation, which showed Coble with 72,329 votes to Britt’s 72,250.
