AIDS Found Among Pregnant Ugandans
A new study has documented an alarming incidence of the AIDS virus among pregnant women in a key center in northern Uganda, medical researchers said Saturday.
A preliminary study conducted this month by doctors in the northern garrison town of Gulu found that 11% of a pilot group of 41 pregnant women had acquired immune deficiency syndrome, a virus that breaks down the body’s immune system.
There was no indication if the women tested belonged to a group at high risk of exposure to the disease, such as prostitutes or drug addicts.
