A 27-year-old woman who was shot in the face in Van Nuys on Friday evening was not seriously injured because the bullet passed laterally through the front of her face, police said.

Erimian Rahal was driving on Victory Boulevard near Kester Avenue about 9 p.m. when she was shot by a man who pulled alongside her in another car, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Joe Garcia said. The bullet struck no bones, Garcia said.

Police said they believe the man, identified as Krikor Chouchanian, 46, was the woman’s boyfriend. Chouchanian was arrested at his Santa Monica residence late Friday on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

Rahal was taken to North Hollywood Medical Center, then apparently released after being treated, Garcia said. Hospital records indicated that Rahal was not admitted overnight, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police had not determined Rahal’s address, nor what prompted the shooting, Garcia said.
