Woodland Hills-based Dataproducts Corp., a maker of computer printers, said its net income jumped 108% on 6% lower sales during its third quarter ended last Dec. 27. The company reported net income of $2.1 million, or 10 cents a share, on sales of $84.8 million.

Frank J. McQuaid, Dataproducts’ senior vice president, said reduced sales of daisy-wheel printers and completion of a contract for International Business Machines last March accounted for the sales drop. He cited cost-cutting measures as the reason for increased profit.

Backlog as of Dec. 27 was $105 million, down $5 million from the beginning of the quarter. McQuaid said he expects the backlog to increase in the fourth quarter, because of an influx of government and military contracts.
