Charges Dropped in 9 Drug Cases Because of Romance

Share

The district attorney’s office declined to prosecute eight students and one non-student adult arrested as drug dealing suspects at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills on the recommendation of police after investigators discovered that the undercover policewoman who made the arrests was romantically involved with a 17-year-old varsity football player at the school.

“That . . . damaged her credibility and so, in the interests of justice, we recommended that the cases be dismissed,” Los Angeles police Cmdr. William Booth said Monday.

The department is deciding what sort of disciplinary action will be taken against the policewoman. Booth said the officer, whose name has not been disclosed, has been placed on inactive status in which she collects pay but does not report to work.
