A federal agency accused Orkin Exterminating Co. of incorrectly applying a pesticide blamed by a woman for the stillbirth of her child. An Environmental Protection Agency complaint alleges that Orkin failed to follow label directions when it applied a pesticide called Orkil at the home of Walter and Patricia Sexton of Roanoke, Va., said Hal Sprague, an EPA attorney in Philadelphia. Orkil contains heptachlor and chlordane, a chemical that can cause flu-like symptoms and neurological problems such as memory loss, officials say.
