Roswell Gilbert, convicted two years ago of first-degree murder in the shooting of his ailing wife, will remain in prison without clemency, Florida Gov. Bob Martinez said. The governor’s office has received 600 letters supporting Gilbert’s release since the NBC television movie, “Mercy or Murder,” was broadcast earlier this month. Martinez said he had no plans to ask for another clemency hearing for the 77-year-old former engineer, who shot his wife, Emily, in March, 1985.
