Local News in Brief : Tractor Driver Dies After Falling Under the Vehicle in Chatsworth
A 44-year-old Santa Paula tractor driver died Wednesday when he fell under his vehicle as it rolled backward down Oat Mountain in Chatsworth, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.
The victim, identified as Ronnie Eason, was employed by Dean Lindsey Excavating & Grading Co. of Santa Paula and was digging a foundation for a block wall near Little Mountain Road when his skip-loader tractor backed over a small embankment, officials said. The tractor rolled 20 feet down the mountain before the driver jumped or fell and was pinned underneath, investigators said.
The victim was working in mountain oil fields leased by Los Angeles-based Unocal Corp. 10 miles north of the Simi Valley Freeway when the accident occurred at 11 a.m., fire Capt. Donald Hull said.
