The Inglewood Teachers Assn., which represents almost 90% of the Inglewood Unified School District’s 624 instructors, voted to go on strike next week if district officials do not agree to a 7% salary increase for each of the next three years. District negotiators tentatively agreed to the three-year contract, but the school board held back on official approval after learning that the district would receive less state funding than anticipated. District officials said that development will mean the district would not be able to provide a 7% salary increase for the second and third years of the contract. The district is offering to provide a 7% increase for the first year, and raises for the remaining part of the contract that are based on state funding for those years. The union, however, says the offer is unacceptable and suggests that lottery funds slated for special programs be used to cover salaries. Negotiations resume Friday.
