Killy Quits 1992 Olympics Post

Jean-Claude Killy, France’s triple gold medalist at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics, resigned today as president of the organizing committee for the 1992 Olympics in the French Alps.

Killy, France’s most famous winter sports star, said he quit because of local protests against a plan to relocate some of the Olympic ski races at the request of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC awarded the winter games to the French Alpine town of Albertville last year, and the initial plan envisaged holding events across a wide area of the Savoy region.
