Reporters were barred from the room as a 43-member committee of civic and sports figures began work on organizing a Los Angeles bid for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s 1991 Olympic Festival. Chairman David Wolper said the meeting was closed after a question was asked about what the budget of the bid committee would be.

Later, Wolper said the budget was not yet settled, but that in any event the costs would be defrayed by private contributions.

Mayor Tom Bradley expressed city support for the plan to bid for the festival.

In another matter, City Council officials said the Council is expected to endorse a Los Angeles bid for Super Bowl XXV, in 1991, when it meets on Friday.
