A Granada Hills man picked the wrong place to have an accident in a stolen car Thursday, deputies said. The accident occurred in front of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s station.
Cort Carlson, 20, was arrested on suspicion of automobile theft after he lost control of the older-model Volkswagen about 2 p.m. in front of the Santa Clarita Valley substation in Valencia and hit a concrete divider, Deputy Steve Atkinson said.
Carlson ran when a deputy came out to help, Atkinson said. The deputy caught Carlson about a block away, and a check of the car’s registration found that it belonged to a Los Angeles police officer, Atkinson said.
The officer told deputies tht the car should have been in his garage in Sylmar, Atkinson said.
Carlson was being held in lieu of $7,500 bail at the substation.
