San Diego Men’s Basketball : Brackens Leads UC San Diego to a Victory

Brian Backens scored 21 points as UC San Diego defeated Christian Heritage College, 101-86, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday night.

Greg Kamansky scored 16 points and John Saintignon added 14 for UCSD (16-6). Rundy Foster paced Christian Heritage (6-16) with 18 points.

Point Loma Nazarene 74, Fresno Pacific 65--Steve Bruce scored 31 points to lead Point Loma Nazarene to a Golden State Conference victory at Fresno.

Greg Lanthier, who played at Mt. Carmel High School, added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Point Loma (4-1, 15-6), which is tied with Westmont for first place. John Berwick scored 23 points to lead Fresno Pacific (0-5, 7-14).

In women’s play:

UC San Diego 71, Christ College of Irvine 48--Beth Copeland scored 16 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field to lead UCSD (13-8) to a nonconference victory at Irvine. Jill Koster added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Tritons.
