New England and East Coast residents wrapped up a wintry January as another powerful storm left them digging out from a foot of new snow. Snowfall records for January were reported at Scranton, Pa. (29.3 inches), and Albany, N.Y. (47.2 inches), and it was the snowiest month on record at Cooperstown, N.Y., which had more than 50 inches. Snow showers lingered over western New York and Pennsylvania and as far south as North Carolina, as the storm system moved toward Nova Scotia.
