Meese’s Attack on Miranda Rule

Your editorial (Jan. 23), “What Hogwash!,” is an example of confusion of the America of song, civics classes, and the Constitution with the Real America.

Ed Meese and company on the right amplify the America-in-Fact, the America of Tradition, at odds with the fictional America articulated endlessly by political speech writers, fitfully by the courts, and now and then by Times editorialists.
