Grand Canyon’s Glory Comes to Life in Painting

It’s a long way from universities in Egypt and France, where Maher Morcos studied architecture and anatomy, to the great vistas of the American West that he now paints. Morcos will often study and research the background of a painting for months before putting a brush to canvas. Many of his paintings are the result of his love and study of America’s Old West. The work shown in progress here is a painting of the Grand Canyon entitled “Within Canyon Walls.” It took Morcos three months to paint, often working at night and in the early morning hours to avoid telephone calls and distractions, and was sold for $30,000 after hanging in the Eagle Art Gallery in La Jolla three days. Morcos is also well known for his sculpture.
