President’s State of Union

Share

It was a pleasure to see the President looking well and standing as tall as ever in his State of the Union address.

Of course he’s stressing the importance of a strong defense and support for the “Freedom Fighters” in Central America was hardly designed to appeal to the left-wing media, and the Reagan-bashing began about 3 minutes after his speech in the television commentary.

Nor was it surprising to read The Times’ downbeat editorial, representing America as “sailing from a murky present into an uncertain future.”

Well, as one who remembers the murky past under Jimmy Carter, I kind of like the low inflation and interest rates of today. Not to mention a stronger defense posture and the reclaiming of one small nation (Grenada) from the communists while denying them another (El Salvador).

On balance, I’d have to say, Thanks, Mr. President. May God bless you and confound your enemies at home and abroad.
